Frequently Asked Questions

The skills and coping mechanisms that you develop in therapy will not end with your last session;
you will carry these tools with you for the rest of your life

My fee for Individual Therapy in-person or online is $115 for a 50-minute session.
Payment is due at the time of service. I accept all major credit cards, cash, and check. I also accept Flexible Savings Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) as payment.

Online Therapy or counseling is psychotherapy that occurs using audio/video technology, similar to Skype or Facetime. It’s super easy and convenient. You’ll find a quiet and private place where you have a good internet connection and a webcam. I’ll send you a secure link which you will click a few minutes before our session. Our videos will pop up and we will be face-to-face!

Yes, you are welcome to come to my comfortable home office at the North End of Virginia Beach for your sessions. Regarding Covid 19: I am fully vaccinated. I kindly ask that you refrain from in person sessions if you are experiencing any symptoms of illness. If you would like to wear a mask during our sessions that is fine. I am also happy to accommodate us both wearing masks, if that is your preference.

I believe that therapy should be accessible to everyone; for this reason, I reserve a limited number of reduced-fee weekly appointments (based on financial need). Please contact me to discuss further.

Address: 206 70th Street, Virginia Beach, VA 23451. I have a home office located at the North End of Virginia Beach. There is free parking in front of the building or on the street.

Like many other therapists in private practice, I do not bill commercial insurance directly. If your plan offers it, your insurance company may pay for a portion of your health treatment. Check with your insurance company to see if you have this out-of-network benefit. To use your benefit, you will pay me directly at the time of service, and I will provide you with a special receipt called a “superbill” you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. You may be asked for the CPT code in order to verify reimbursement rate; the CPT code for 50-minute individual session is 90834.

I offer daytime appointments between 10am and 7pm Monday through Thursday.

I typically see individual clients once per week. Seeing each other weekly allows for the work to move along at a good pace. We will schedule a consistent time for our sessions. This will make it easier to plan around and you’ll have a consistent time in your schedule focused on you and your growth

In most cases, in order to progress a commitment to at least 15 minutes each day 5 days a week is needed for out of session homework. We will work collaboratively to come up with a plan that best meets your needs and goals.

All client records are stored in a cloud-based system with bank level encryption that is HIPAA certified, encrypted, and kept secure.

Video therapy sessions are only held over HIPAA compliant software that uses point-to-point encryption ensuring that our communications are secure. Your PHI is never stored on the server. The software meets HIPAA, GDPR, PHIPA/PIPEDA, & HITECH requirements.

If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours beforehand. If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance or do not show up for your appointment, you will be charged for the full rate of the session.

At this time I do NOT see couples or children.

This is a very important question. You are dedicating time and resources and want to be sure you are picking the right person. You should consider logistical factors (office location, availability) as well as personal factors (my training and expertise, personality, and ‘the feel’ you get). An initial phone conversation should be able answer some of these questions – I suggest that you think about the questions that will inform your decision. Sometimes you have to be in a room with someone before you truly have a feel for the person. The first couple of face-to-face sessions can continue to inform your decision and we can talk about any ongoing reservations or concerns you might have.
